Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Assistant
Job Description
The IPM assistant   will be responsible to train in all aspects of our plant health program. Developing   a proactive approach to keeping our plants healthy and growing is critical. Adaptation of a sustainable and environmentally sensitive perspective will be a key component of this position.   This is a hands-on position where education and action coincide.
     
Duties and Responsibilities
- Scouting all areas of the nursery to detect disease and insect pressure. 
- Cooperate in development of action plan to address issues
- Focus on preventative programs to minimize disease and pest problems
- Participate in spraying application of remediation materials as they apply to eradication of problems. 
- Assist and expand the implementation and maintenance of our beneficial insect program
- Help develop a banker plant system to foster a self-sustaining beneficials inventory
- Learn an accurate and timely planning, tracking and record keeping system to monitor our IPM programs
- Create work orders, accurately measure inputs, safely and efficiently apply chemicals and properly clean equipment
- Learn to maintain accurate chemical inventory, create purchase orders and order chemicals
- Learn and become proficient in use of a wide range of application equipment such as backpack sprayers, reel sprayers, foggers and tractor applicators
Qualifications for the position
- High School diploma or equivalent
- B.A. or B.S. in horticultural field is helpful
- Experience in an agricultural or nursery enterprise preferred
- Experience in chemical application preferable
- Knowledge or experience with beneficials and biological controls preferred
- Obtaining an Oregon Private Applicator License is a must (we will provide training and preparation)
- Computer literate with basic ability to develop reports and spreadsheets
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred 
- Organizational and multitasking ability necessary
- Dedication to timely action and communication skills critical
- Acute attention to detail
